Cuddling is already fun – just as it is. Whether you’re holding hands with a family member or exchanging back rubs with a friend, the experience can be just…so…nice. You can also add some flair and variety to it with Designer Cuddle Experiences. (I’ve put them in caps to be fancy!) Below are three of them.

Music Lovers Cuddle

This popular one is inspired by the fact that so many cuddlers have fantastic taste in music. For some of us, music provides the background sounds to a busy life. Taking the time for cuddling naturally slows things down. If you long to savor your favorite music without distraction, doing so while cuddling can be an exquisite experience.

Some might think that the best music to cuddle to is classical. Others might say New Age or Country. What genres of music do you like? What genres of music does your cuddle buddy like? Maybe you can take turns choosing the tunes. And perhaps you can expand your musical horizons together.

Celebration Cuddle

You’ll notice that this experience and the next one can both be given as a gift. The Celebration Cuddle is a way for you to say, “Congratulations” to your cuddle buddy for reaching some important milestone in their life. Maybe the person is celebrating a promotion or perhaps it’s a year of sobriety. It could be that your cuddle buddy reached a creative goal or finished something difficult. Offering a celebratory cuddle is a completely unique way to cheer your cuddle buddy on.

The experience is quite simple. Ask your cuddle buddy if you can provide them with some special cuddle time to celebrate their latest success. If your cuddle buddy says “yes”, you can ask which cuddle positions or activities might be especially enjoyable to them. Now it’s your turn to consider which positions or activities your cuddle buddy would enjoy that would also be comfortable for you to give. The chances are excellent that there will be some overlap.

Now set it up!

Helping/Healing Cuddle

Here’s the second option that can be given as a gift. It’s a very special one. The Helping/Healing Cuddle is one in which the intention is to provide an environment for your cuddle buddy to feel better. It’s useful for people that are home recovering from an illness or in the hospital. It’s also great for those dealing with a lot of stress or who’ve had a hard day.

Offering a Helping/Healing cuddle is a way to say, “I care” and “I want to help.”

The gentlest of touches might be best especially if someone has just had surgery. Pay close attention to what your buddy needs and be ready to stop – as with all cuddles – if your buddy requests it.

Your cuddle buddy may appreciate having a chance to talk, to complain, to simply be heard. This is your opportunity to be a great listener.

It’s possible that your cuddle buddy might want you to talk about yourself during the cuddle. They may say, “Tell me about your life – anything besides my own, boring illness.” If they ask for it, have at it and talk.

Another option will be to cuddle quietly. Your cuddle buddy may not have the strength or interest in holding a conversation. Having a visit in the hospital that doesn’t require keeping up a conversation can be the best visit ever.

Sometimes a person feels too upset to chat. The cuddling may help them feel safe enough to cry. If that happens, feel free to breathe and allow them to let it all out. For me, it’s a tremendous honor to hold someone while they cry. If you’ve never had this experience, the Helping/Healing Cuddle may be one you’d like to try.
