I was driving to a cuddle event one Saturday afternoon in February when I received a call from the Dr. Phil show. They were seeking a professional cuddling expert to appear on the show. I was psyched at the opportunity for more people to know about us, and I love doing on-camera things! Four days later I was on the Paramount lot getting my hair and makeup done and moments away from being planted in the studio audience.
If you’ve seen the show, it typically involves dramatic situations and people. This one features a married couple; he invested in her cuddle business and is uncomfortable with how she’s marketing it. (Let’s just say, she uses a lot of sexy imagery.)
My goal was to be nonjudgmental and honest. Though Dr. Phil gave the professional cuddler on the show a hard time, my goal was to respect her while also sharing my opinion. I think I succeeded; both she and her husband thanked me afterwards. What’s thrilling is that Dr. Phil used Cuddle Sanctuary as a model for an ethical cuddle business.
The episode will be divided into two parts on Wednesday and Thursday. (My mom watches the show and guesses that Cuddle Sanctuary will be introduced on Thursday. That’s my guess, too.) Here’s the dramatic (and cringe-worthy) set up:
