Years ago, I worked with an executive coach who shared with me a terrific New Year’s ritual called “Complete and Create.” It’s an easy and satisfying way to say good-bye to the old year and how-do-you-do to the new one.
On a piece of paper, make four lists.
- List any successes, aha moments and accomplishments; anything worth celebrating for the year. Take a moment with each one and feel the accomplishment.
- List any disappointments you’ve had this year.
- List any lessons that you’ve learned that will be helpful for you next year.
- Use your imagination and place yourself in December of 2019. List your successes.
That’s it!
I started to compile my lists this morning. Here’s a small sample from my lists:
Successes
I blogged all year and felt proud of my writing and the courage to speak publicly about my points of view.
I discovered the delights of coconut oil for my skin and hair.
Disappointments
My energy level and stamina are still lower than I prefer.
Lessons Learned
If I’m ever afraid about an event or presentation, I know I can rely on myself to be prepared and ready in plenty of time.
2019 Successes
2019 is the most financially successful year of my life by a long shot.
I feel an ongoing, satisfying sense of community, connection and love.
