Years ago, I worked with an executive coach who shared with me a terrific New Year’s ritual called “Complete and Create.” It’s an easy and satisfying way to say good-bye to the old year and how-do-you-do to the new one. Want to give it a shot? I’ve created the video at the bottom of this blog to walk you through the process. Or just follow these instructions.

On a piece of paper, make four lists.

  1. List any successes, aha moments and accomplishments; anything worth celebrating for the year. Take a moment with each one and feel the accomplishment.
  2. List any disappointments you’ve had this year.
  3. List any lessons that you’ve learned that will be helpful for you next year.
  4. Use your imagination and place yourself in December of 2024. List your successes.

Here are some of my responses for our 2023/2024 transition.

High Fives

I dove deeply into a kind of therapy called Parts Work. It’s really helping me heal and grow. I’m super proud of my efforts and strides forward.

I waited until I was really ready to begin offering cuddle events again. I’m really glad that I honored my own timing. I’m enjoying producing and leading the events very much.

Bummers

I’m struggling to make sense of the enormity of the complex problems of the world.

Wisdom

I have excellent intuition and instincts that I can count on. I love this mysterious and potent side of myself.

Future

I experience a brilliant expansion creatively and professionally that feels so good. I am supported and enriched in every way. My life nourishes me.
